Transportation & Logistics Security Guards in California — Yards, Docks & Fleet Protection

Security for California Truck Yards, Cross-Docks, Fleet Lots and Distribution Hubs

Freight is most exposed when it stops moving. Loaded trailers parked overnight, a gate that waves drivers through and a dock door left open between shifts are where cargo disappears. CargoNet recorded 2,646 cargo theft incidents nationwide in 2025, up 18 percent, with an average loss of $273,990 per theft, and California led every state with 1,218 incidents. Safeguard On Demand provides BSIS-licensed officers, patrols and monitored cameras for carriers, third-party logistics operators, drayage yards and fleet operators across the state.

Much of that theft is now fraud at the gate: a driver with forged paperwork or a stolen carrier identity leaves with a legitimate load. Our gate officers verify driver identification, carrier and load numbers against your dispatch list, record tractor, trailer and seal numbers in and out, and hold anything that does not match. In the yard they check seals and locks on parked trailers, watch fuel islands and catalytic converters on idle tractors, and report cut fencing the same shift.

Coverage is built from a free site assessment: standing guards at the gate, marked vehicle patrols across large yards, armed officers for high-value loads, and mobile surveillance units or remote video monitoring for overflow lots. We serve the port corridor in Long Beach and Carson, Inland Empire hubs in Ontario and Fontana, and Central Valley yards around Stockton and Bakersfield. Related programs: warehouse, industrial facility and equipment and materials protection.

Logistics Security Services From the Gate to the Last Trailer Row

Gate Control and Driver Verification

Officers verify driver identification, carrier and load details against your dispatch list, record tractor, trailer and seal numbers, and log every entry and exit so a missing load can be traced to a time and a truck.

Yard and Trailer Patrol

Randomized vehicle and foot rounds check seals, locks and landing gear on parked trailers, fence lines and lighting, with GPS checkpoints and photos of anything disturbed.

Dock and Cross-Dock Security

Officers watch open dock doors, staging lanes and will-call areas, control who enters the floor, and support your team when counts or paperwork do not match.

Fleet, Fuel and Parts Protection

Idle tractors lose catalytic converters, batteries and fuel. Officers patrol fleet rows, fuel islands and parts cages overnight and on weekends, when lots are emptiest.

Workplace Violence Prevention Support

California SB 553 requires most employers to maintain a written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan. Officers support yours with access control, early intervention in driver or employee disputes and incident reports written for your log.

Night-Shift and Lone Worker Safety

Night operations run with fewer people and less visibility. Officers keep the yard and dock patrolled, check in with employees working alone and escort staff to their vehicles.

FULLY TRAINED SECURITY GUARDS

Cargo Theft and Fictitious Pickup Awareness

Mechanics, tire services and vendors need yard access too. Officers verify work orders against your approved list, log entry and exit and keep vendors out of loaded trailer rows.

Transportation and Logistics Security Questions California Operators Ask

They control the gate, verify drivers and paperwork, record tractor, trailer and seal numbers, patrol trailer rows and fence lines, watch dock doors and fleet lots, and document every round with GPS checkpoints and photos.

California SB 553 (effective July 1, 2024) requires most California employers including industrial facility operators to establish, implement, and maintain a written Workplace Violence Prevention Plan. For industrial facilities, this means documenting specific procedures for identifying and responding to workplace violence risks including disgruntled employee incidents, contractor confrontations, lone worker vulnerabilities during night shifts, and threats from external individuals attempting to access the facility. The WVPP must include training, hazard identification, incident response procedures, and record-keeping. Safeguard On Demand’s industrial security assessments generate documentation that directly supports your facility’s SB 553 WVPP compliance requirements.

By verifying each driver, carrier and load against your dispatch list before release, checking seals and locks on parked trailers, varying patrol timing and reporting anything disturbed the same shift. California led all states with 1,218 cargo theft incidents in 2025, according to CargoNet, and much of it began with paperwork that looked legitimate.

A fictitious pickup is a theft in which someone using forged documents or a stolen carrier identity collects a real load. Gate officers reduce the risk by matching identification, carrier, trailer and load numbers to your records and calling dispatch when anything does not match.

Unarmed officers typically run $28 to $42 per hour and armed officers $42 to $65, depending on region, hours and post requirements. Patrol visits and monitored cameras cost less than a fixed post. There is no long-term contract.

California BSIS-licensed security guards do not have the authority to conduct involuntary searches of bags or vehicles — this authority belongs to law enforcement. However, industrial facility operators can make bag checks or vehicle inspections a condition of entry into the facility by including this requirement in their employment contracts, visitor agreements, and contractor agreements. When a person voluntarily consents to a bag check or vehicle inspection as a condition of entering the facility, a security guard can conduct the inspection. Safeguard On Demand’s post orders include legally appropriate access control procedures specific to your facility’s access agreements.
