Quick answer
How are industrial facilities protected?
Industrial facilities typically need gate control, yard and perimeter patrols, monitored cameras and fire watch during hot work. Metal theft is a leading loss: California treats copper theft over $950 as grand theft (Penal Code §487j) and requires scrap dealers to photograph, ID and thumbprint copper sellers (B&P §21608.5). Industrial employers must also maintain SB 553 workplace violence plans.

California requirements
California rules for industrial sites
Theft of copper over $950 is grand theft (Penal Code §487j), and scrap dealers must photograph, ID and thumbprint copper sellers and delay payment (B&P §21608.5). Industrial employers must maintain a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan under SB 553 (Labor Code 6401.9) and an Injury and Illness Prevention Program (8 CCR §3203). Local fire authorities may require fire watch during hot work.
Every officer must hold a BSIS Guard Card and work for a licensed private patrol operator — 8 hours of Power to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force training before registration, 32 more hours within six months, and 8 hours of continuing training every year. Verify any company or officer on the state’s DCA License Search.
